tl;dv works for recruiting when interviews happen on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams and you want a recording, a transcript, an AI summary and short video clips you can share with a hiring manager. As of September 2026 it records with a meeting bot by default or bot-free through its desktop app, stores data primarily in the EU, and names one ATS integration, Greenhouse. It has no scorecard or submittal feature, so it suits in-house teams and hiring managers more than agency desks.

This page covers capture options, plans in hiring terms, the recruiting features, a clip-sharing policy you can copy, and who should choose something else. For the two most similar general tools, see Fireflies for recruiting and Otter.ai for recruiting.

How tl;dv captures an interview

Desktop appWindows and Mac; records system audio for Meet, Teams, Zoom and other platformsNo participantAudio-only recordings give a transcript and summary but no video

Sources, as of September 2026: tl;dv's desktop app page and its product review dated August 2026, which also says tl;dv can email attendees ahead of time that the meeting will be recorded. The desktop app page describes meeting platforms, not phone calls.

Which to use for which interview

  • Video interviews you host, where clips matter: the bot, because clips need video. Name it in the invite.
  • Interviews a client or another team hosts: the desktop app. A bot needs admitting, and that is not your decision in someone else's meeting.
  • Candidates who are uneasy about recording: the desktop app, audio only, with a spoken notice. Less on screen, same obligation to tell them.
  • Phone screens: not described by tl;dv. Test a softphone call first, or use a tool built for phone capture; see how to record a phone screen.

tl;dv plans, in recruiting terms

Prices from tl;dv's pricing page, shown in euros when we checked in September 2026. Plan limits from its August 2026 review. The last column is arithmetic.

PlanPer seatWhat matters for interviewsThree interviewers for a year
Free€0Unlimited recording and transcription; AI notes for ten meetings; five uploads; data kept up to three months€0
Pro€29/mo, or €216/yr (€18/mo)No AI limits, custom note templates, global transcript search, unlimited storage, Zapier, API and webhooks€216 × 3 = €648
Business€39/mo, or €348/yr (€29/mo)Adds multi-meeting Ask AI, custom vocabulary, playbooks and AI coaching, voice identification€348 × 3 = €1,044

Two limits change the picture for hiring:

  • Ten AI-noted meetings on Free is a few days of screening for a recruiter. It is enough for a hiring manager doing a handful of interviews a month.
  • Three months of retention on Free can be shorter than a senior search. The privacy policy says paid users keep recordings until account deletion, which means you need your own deletion rule.

What tl;dv offers recruiters specifically

From tl;dv's hiring and recruiting page and integration pages, as of September 2026:

  • Recording, transcripts and AI summaries of interviews on Meet, Teams and Zoom.
  • Timestamped highlights and video snippets to share parts of an interview.
  • Tagging colleagues at moments in the recording, so a specialist can review a technical answer without attending.
  • Greenhouse: the Greenhouse page describes pushing summaries, feedback and recording links, set up from tl;dv's integrations tab with templates or custom workflows.
  • Other systems: the integrations page names Greenhouse as its only ATS and points to 5,000+ apps through Zapier.
  • EU data: the privacy policy says personal data is primarily processed and stored in the EEA, AI transcript processing may be EU or US depending on settings, and customer content is not used to train general-purpose AI models.

The EU storage is a genuine point in tl;dv's favor for European recruiters, whose data protection assessment will ask where interview data sits. It does not remove the need for a lawful basis, a notice and a retention period; see recording interviews under UK GDPR.

A clip-sharing policy you can copy

Clips are tl;dv's most distinctive feature for hiring and the easiest to misuse. A 40-second clip shows a moment without the question before it or the answer after it. Agree rules before anyone shares one.

INTERVIEW RECORDING AND CLIP POLICY – [Team] – [Date]

1. Who may record: [recruiters / hiring managers / all interviewers]
2. Notice: invite text + spoken notice at the start of every call.
If the candidate declines, stop recording and take notes by hand.
3. Clips may be shared only with: people on this role's hiring team.
Never in public channels, never outside the company.
4. Every clip must include the question that was asked.
5. Clips are for evidence on a scorecard criterion, not for
impressions ("vibe", accent, appearance, background, nerves).
6. Nobody scores a candidate from clips alone. Reviewers who
did not attend read the full transcript for that section.
7. Retention: recordings and clips deleted [X] days after the
role closes; hired candidates' recordings deleted at [X].
8. Candidate requests for access or deletion go to: [name].
9. AI summaries are a draft. The interviewer checks any quote
used on a scorecard against the transcript.

Rule 5 matters because video shows things that are not job-related and may reveal protected characteristics. What not to write in interview notes applies to clips too.

A review workflow for hiring managers who missed the interview

The legitimate use of recordings in hiring is letting a second person assess evidence without a second interview. Done loosely, it turns into people forming opinions from highlights. A workable routine:

  1. The interviewer scores first. Their scorecard is submitted before anyone else watches, so the reviewer cannot anchor the interviewer.
  2. The interviewer tags, not clips. Tag the reviewer at the start of each question relevant to their criterion, rather than cutting a highlight around the best or worst moment.
  3. The reviewer reads or watches the whole answer, from the question to the next question, and writes evidence against the same criterion.
  4. Disagreements go to the debrief with the timestamp, not to a chat thread with a clip.
  5. Nothing is shared beyond the hiring team, and nothing is kept past the retention date in your policy.

A reviewer watches only the answers for their criterion rather than sitting through a full interview slot, and the evidence it produces is comparable across candidates because everyone reviewed the same span of each answer, from question to question. Tell candidates in your notice that other members of the hiring team may review the recording.

Settings to review before your first candidate call

  1. Calendar auto-join. If interviews and internal meetings share a calendar, decide whether the bot should join everything.
  2. Pre-meeting email. Turn on the attendee notice if your plan and setup allow, and still say it aloud.
  3. AI processing region. Check the EU or US setting for AI features against your data protection assessment.
  4. Sharing defaults. Check who in the workspace can see recordings. Interviews contain pay expectations and personal details.
  5. Note template. On Pro and above, build a template with your scorecard criteria as headings so AI notes line up with how you score. The interview scorecard template is a starting point.
  6. Greenhouse workflow. Test on a dummy candidate and check the note lands on the right profile.

Where tl;dv stops for recruiting

Not found on tl;dv's pages as of September 2026. Ask before you decide, since features change.

  • Agency ATS. No Bullhorn, JobAdder, Loxo or Crelate integration named; see notetakers for Bullhorn and for JobAdder.
  • Structured scorecards and submittals. Summaries and templates are described; a scored scorecard or a client submittal is not.
  • A live interview guide. Notes arrive after the call. Nothing described tracks which must-ask questions you covered during it.
  • Phone screens. Not described for the desktop app or the bot.

Who tl;dv suits, and who should look elsewhere

tl;dv is a sensible choice if:

  • You are a European in-house team that wants interview data stored primarily in the EEA.
  • Hiring managers want to review parts of interviews they could not attend, and you will follow a clip policy.
  • You are on Greenhouse, or happy to use Zapier for another ATS.
  • You want the choice between a bot with video and bot-free audio capture, at a low price per seat.

Look at other tools if:

  • You are an agency recruiter who needs Bullhorn or JobAdder notes and client submittals.
  • Most screens happen on the phone.
  • You want structure during the interview, not only a summary after it.

For phone-heavy screening with a live question guide, Interview Signal is one option: a desktop app with no bot that captures phone and video screens through your computer, scores with evidence quotes checked against the transcript, and keeps transcripts on your computer. It does not record video or make clips, so if clips are the point, tl;dv is the better fit.

Questions people ask

Does tl;dv join interviews as a bot?

By default, yes. As of September 2026 tl;dv's own review of its product describes a visible participant joining Zoom, Google Meet and Teams once your calendar is connected. Its desktop app for Windows and Mac records system audio with no bot, and audio-only recordings give a transcript and summary without video.

Which applicant tracking systems does tl;dv integrate with?

Greenhouse is the only ATS named on tl;dv's integrations page as of September 2026; its Greenhouse page describes pushing summaries, feedback and recording links. Other systems would go through Zapier, which tl;dv says connects to 5,000+ apps, or its API and webhooks on paid plans.

Where does tl;dv store interview data?

tl;dv's privacy policy says personal data is primarily processed and stored in the European Economic Area, and that transcripts for AI features may be processed in the EU or the US depending on your settings. It also says customer content is not used to train general-purpose AI models.

How much does tl;dv cost?

tl;dv's pricing page showed Pro at €29 per seat monthly or €216 a year (€18 a month), and Business at €39 monthly or €348 a year (€29 a month), as of September 2026. The free plan includes AI notes for ten meetings and keeps recordings for three months.

Can tl;dv record a phone screen?

Its desktop app page describes recording meeting platforms such as Zoom, Meet and Teams from system audio. It does not describe phone calls, so test a softphone call on your own setup before relying on it, and do not expect it to capture a call on your mobile.
